Drappier Champagne
Drappier Champagne
History of the house Drappier
The History des Hauses Drappier Champagne reicht weit zurück.
Over the centuries, Drappier Champagne has continued to develop and consolidate its position in the champagne world. A notable highlight in the history of the house was its relationship with Charles de Gaulle. The French statesman and gourmet lived in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, near Urville, and regularly filled his wine cellar with the best cuvées from Drappier.
The cuvées of Drappier Champagne
Drappier is known above all for its characterful and expressive cuvées. The Grande Sendrée is the flagship of the house and is made from the best grapes from the best vineyards. This cuvée is characterised by its fine perlage, complex aromas and excellent balance.
In addition to the Grande Sendrée, Drappier offers a variety of other cuvées, all of which reflect the unique style and philosophy of the house. These include the Brut Nature, a very dry cuvée with no added sugar, and the Carte d'Or, which is appreciated for its fruity and floral character.
Current information on vineyards and headquarters
Today, the Drappier estate covers 75 hectares of vineyards. These are located in some of the best sites in Champagne, including Urville and Bergères, BouzyAmbonnay, Mareuil-sur-Ay and Cramant. Each of these sites brings its own distinctive characteristics to the wines, resulting in the great diversity and complexity of Drappier champagnes.
The winery itself is based in Urville, where the historic cellars dating back to the 12th century are also located. Here, the wines mature under optimal conditions and develop their characteristic finesse and elegance. The limestone-rich soils of the region contribute significantly to the typicality and balance of the Drappier cuvées.
Sustainability and innovation
In recent years, Drappier Champagne has increasingly focussed on sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in viticulture. The company uses organic cultivation methods and largely avoids the use of chemicals. In addition, Drappier relies on modern techniques and innovations to continuously improve the quality of its wines. One example of this is the use of CO2-neutral bottles to reduce the ecological footprint.
Drappier Champagne has also made a name for itself through its love of experimentation. The house was one of the first to launch a champagne with a very low sulphur content. These innovations, combined with a deep respect for tradition and terroir, make Drappier one of the most exciting champagne houses of the present day.
Famous champagnes from Drappier
In addition to the famous Grande Sendrée, there are other outstanding champagnes from Drappier that have gained international recognition. These include, among others:
- Drappier Brut NatureA champagne without dosage that impresses with its freshness and purity.
- Drappier Carte d'OrA classic of the house, known for its flavours of white fruits and a fine minerality.
- Drappier Rosé de SaignéeA rosé champagne produced using the traditional saignée method and appreciated for its intense fruit flavours.
The importance of Drappier in Champagne
Drappier has not only made a name for itself through its excellent wines, but also through its commitment to the region and the community. The company is an important employer in Urville and the surrounding area and supports numerous local initiatives. In addition, Drappier is an active member of various winegrowers' associations and is committed to promoting and protecting Champagne as a winegrowing region.
The combination of tradition, innovation and a deep understanding of the terroir makes Drappier Champagne an essential part of the Champagne landscape. With its long history and relentless pursuit of quality, the House of Drappier will continue to play a leading role in the world of champagne in the future.
