KRUG BELONGS TO FAMILY GROUP IVMH.
Krug is a champagne brand founded in 1843 in Reims, considered by many connoisseurs as the best of all the Champagne is called. Originally founded by Johann-Joseph Krug from Mainz, the champagne house is now owned by the luxury goods group LVMH. The company is managed by Rémi Krug as well as by master cellarer Eric Lebel. Krug uses very traditional, almost artisanal production methods for the production of about 500,000 bottles per year. The base wines of all cuvees are aged in wooden barrels that are about 35 years old. The bottles are not sold until the wines are ready to drink, but the Krug house recommends letting the bottles sit for at least another year after purchase. When the wines are fresh, the acidity can be very harsh; with proper aging, the Champagne will become rounder, slightly softer, and build its distinctive flavors over time. The mono cru Champagne Krug Clos du Mesnil, a Blanc de Blancs from an outstanding single vineyard site in Le Mesnil, was first released from the 1979 vintage harvest. Since a shorter time, there has been another mono cru champagne from Krug, the "Clos d'Ambonnay". This is the champagne with the highest launch price on the market so far. It is a champagne made from 100 % of Pinot Noir; the first vintage was in 1995, the second will be 1996 become. In gourmet restaurants, the price is around €4,500 per bottle.
