Coligny

Coligny (zip code 51130), with its 566 inhabitants (as of 2016) is the southernmost commune, in the Champagne region Côte des Blancs, in France. Coligny was incorporated into the village of Val-des-Marais. The small village is located about 22 km south of Épernay, in the southwestern neighborhood of Bergères-les-Vertus.In 1985, with the reclassification, in Champagne, Coligny was upgraded and since then carries the status of Champagne classification, as a Premier Cru place. However, the Premier Cru status is limited to the white grapes. The white grapes have been rated 90% since 1985. The black grapes continue to be rated at 87%. Vineyards cover 29.7 hectares (as of 2019) and are entirely planted with the Chardonnay grape variety. The vineyards are located on relatively low slopes, with southern exposure on Mont Aimé.
