History and foundation

After the death of Gottlieb Mumm in 1852, the company was split into two separate companies: G. H. Mumm & Co, named after Gottlieb's son Georg Hermann, and Jules Mumm & Co, named after Jacobus' son Julius Engelbert. Jules Mumm used the red ribbon of the Legion of Honour as a distinctive mark for his brand, giving birth to the "Cordon Rouge" brand.
Development and expansion
