The history of Deutz Champagne
In the early years of the company, Deutz Champagne and Geldermann focused on the production of high-quality champagnes that stood out for their elegance and fine flavour. Their aim was to create champagnes that would fulfil the requirements of both connoisseurs and occasional connoisseurs. By acquiring some of the best vineyards in the region, they were able to ensure the quality of their grapes and therefore their wines.
The vineyards and production
The vineyards of Deutz Champagne cover around 200 hectares, mainly in the best locations in Champagne. These vineyards include some of the region's most famous crus, including Aÿ, Bouzy and Ambonnay. The location of these vineyards is crucial to the quality of the grapes used in the production of Deutz Champagne.
Champagne production at Deutz is characterised by a combination of traditional methods and modern techniques. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand to ensure that only the best fruit is used. After harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed to extract the purest juice, which is then fermented in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels, depending on the desired style of champagne.
One of the outstanding characteristics of Deutz champagne is its long ageing process. The wines are aged on the lees for at least three years before being disgorged. Some of the prestige cuvées are aged even longer to achieve greater complexity and depth.
